100 Things Part 5

Once again Monday has come around way to fast. I can't believe how fast time is passing. Its been four months since we came to Australia. How time flys when your having fun.
I think the best part about doing this series has been to read what other people have posted about what makes them happy. Everyone has such unique things that they love to do and it gives me great ideas when I'm looking to try something new.

The smell of fall

A night out with friends I haven't seen in forever and picking up right where we left off

Coming home to Jason's cooking

Crumble and custard

Just because I love you flowers

Stormy nights

Being creative/ making something

Having a comfortable amount of savings

Being inspired by the blogs that I read

Rainy Days

Considering that when we arrived in Australia it was winter the weather has been fantastic. Sure to those who live here its chilly and they are forced to wear a sweater or a scarf perhaps gasp. But for the beau and I its been delightful thinking about the fact that the best weather has yet to come. Having said that since it is suppose to be winter we were bound to run across a few not so sunny days.
We had a couple of rainy days while in the Townsville area and when you call a little camper home it gets a bit claustrophobic when you spend the entire day in said camper so we decided to fill our day with some cozy activities.
Firstly we found a fantastic boutique style espresso shop that made the best latte. Im not kidding folks I had four. Thats right four in one day. We spent the day lounging on there cozy sofa and reading our books while we ordered latte's all day. Can you say caffeine high.

After a good solid five hours we decided it might be time to pack up and find something else to do. I'm sure the barista was getting sick of us being there all morning. So we decided that seeing a movie would be the perfect thing on a rainy afternoon. We ended up seeing Snow White and the Huntsman. Top notch movie if I do say so myself.

It was a perfect day. What do you like to do on those rainy days?

Wallaman Falls

While we were in the area we decided to drive up and check out Wallaman Falls as many people had told us it was totally worth the drive to see the views. The falls have a drop of 268 metres which is Australia's highest permanent waterfall. Close up they are absolutely stunning and we couldn't even take the walk down the slope to get closer. Unfortunately it was closed for construction and although the beau was eager to hop the fence and continue on I on the other hand had a vision of one of us tripping and falling to our death so it was a no go on that front.
The weather was a bit on the cooler side and the sunshine seemed to refuse to come out so the pictures have a bit of a grey dreary look to them but non the less it was still a spectacular view.

Happy weekend everyone.

Attack of the crazy magpie

This is not the original post I had planned for today but this must be said.

So yesterday morning I was happily off in my own little world as I made my way to work when out of no where something slams into the side of my head. At first so surprised as to what just happened I don't really understand that it was a bird until I see this massive shadow coming at me just as I have the sense to duck as it seems to be getting stupidly close. Still shocked and thinking this must be some sort of dream I'm still standing there trying to comprehend the crazy look this bird is giving me from its perch up on the power lines until this random guy walks by and says you might want to duck he's coming around again.
Yup thats right people. Apparently for a few months of Spring every year here in Australia, magpies get stupidly protective and aggressive and will attack just about anyone that comes to close to them.
My roommate actually told me the story of when it happened to her while she was riding her bike and has said it was the scariest situation that she has been in.
I have to agree as I didn't really know how to react when it was happening and was then so paranoid for the rest of my walk that I literally flinched every time I heard a bird noise.

(pictures from

People that ride their pedal bikes to work have been known to put spikes on their helmets to prevent the birds from being able to land on them. Others walking to work seem to resort to holding their purses or briefcase over their heads for protection when they see the birds looming close.
I'm still really shocked that this is such a normal thing over here and I was actually pretty scared to leave my house but my need for coffee one out. I have actually began carrying my umbrella with me and using it as my shield hoping that if they see this big black thing they will generally ignore me, heres hoping.
Now maybe this is one everyone must go through in order to be initiated into Australian society but I'm wondering if there is a less brutal and humiliating way to go about it.

Would love to hear about any similar stories you might have.

100 Things Part 3

Continuing on with the Monday theme here is part three of 100 things that make me happy. Sitting here tonight and trying to figure out what to put I realized that I often take for granted all the little things in my life that make me happy. Having this list of things in front of me makes me realize all the great things/people that I have in my life and whenever I have a bad moment or day I can just refer to the list to remind myself that its not all bad. What a great start to the week.

Watching a sunset

Getting my hair done

The smell of lavender

Spending a lazy day on the couch watching movies

Sunday brunch

Spa treatments

My favourite pair of skinny jeans

A great cup of tea

Animal Sanctuary

One of my favourite things about Australia is all the amazing animals that call this place home. The wildlife is so incredible different that every time I see an animal wonder by I'm snapping pictures like a mad women.
Anytime that we have driven by a sign that points towards an animal sanctuary I'm jumping up and down in my seat squealing with such excitement that Jason almost swerves off the road thinking that he's about to hit something. I instantly transform back into a child at the idea of getting to spend the day wandering around petting all the furry creatures.
The BillaBong Sanctuary is home to all sorts of critters including the flying squirrel, salt water crocodiles, snakes, kangaroos and of course koalas. We spent two full days here feeding ducks, turtles and kangaroos who are so friendly you could pretty much walk right up and hug them. It was an amazing experience and well worth all the money we spent on the bags of feed so that we could make sure each and every kangaroo would get fed.
