Fall check list

Can you believe how fast the months are flying by these days, does that make me old saying that? I think I might have said something very similar last year, I think that does make me old.

September was a fantastic month and I have so many beautiful pictures to share with you guys from our trip to England. First I have to go through with them all and let me tell you its going to take a while.

I have a lot of things that I would love to do this fall, here are a few of my favourites.

- Make another batch of pumpkin spice syrup, loved my homemade version last year.

- Start knitting again. I have yarn for another scarf and a shawl.

- Carve a few pumpkins in time for halloween.

- Have one last bonfire to roast mash mellows before it gets to cold.

- Go hiking to capture the beautiful colours of fall.

- Discover some new recipes for comfort food. Anyone have any good ones?

- Shop for a few items that will make our living space super cozy.

- Roast some chestnuts, my favourite.

We are not rooted in the dirt, but with fidgeting feet and eager eyes.
In unfamiliar places I find comfort, the things I love, and myself, in disguise.
Where ever curiosity leads, I will follow, not much for lust but I fell in love
with the sight of the road.

Currently Craving: Green

As I browse all my favourite online shops looking for some fall fashion inspiration, I've started to notice that pretty much everything in my cart is green. It's the perfect fall colour and these pieces can be layer if it happens to be a chilly day.

Athens, Greece

I had a great time while staying in Athens. As soon as I checked into my hostel I met some fellow Canadians that were also bunking in my room. All of us had been travelling alone so we decided to explore Athens together and see what the night life was like.

The day we decided to tour the Acropolis it was a historic holiday of some kind so our entry was completely free. That was pretty awesome. Unfortunately most of the Acropolis was surrounded in scaffolding and undergoing renovations, which made it difficult to get a decent picture.
At night though it looked beautiful.

Athens has plenty of history and architecture to keep you busy for days. The area surrounding the Acropolis is gorgeous and filled with fantastic restaurants and cafes. I couldn't get enough of the vendors selling fresh coconut water and roasted chestnuts.

Venice, Italy

While I was travelling around Italy, my younger sister came to join me on my adventure. It was great to see her, by then I had been away from home for about ten months. True to her nature she had the entire month of her stay planned out so I decided to go along for the ride, enjoying the fact that I didn't have to make any decisions.

Venice is a very magical city. The first day we tried to navigate around with a map, having little success this way we decided just to wander around and see where we ended up. I found some amazing artwork and jewelry. My favourite part about venice was all the mask shops. I would have loved to buy a couple if my budget had allowed it.

We spent about five days in Venice. Enjoying chocolate crepes and lattes. We took in a play about the history of carnival and took the water taxies to explore the surrounding islands. It was sad to see many of the buildings under water, there is so much beauty in this city.

Travel outfit

When I travel all I care about is being comfortable, especially if the flight is going to last more then 2 hours. At the same time I want to look some what presentable and stylish stepping off the plane at our destination. I am so envious of those women who look incredible even after a 24 hour trip, I am not one of those women.

I wore overalls all the time when I was younger, so I love that they are back in style. They are the perfect thing to wear for a trip. What is your go to travel outfit?

Leaving your ego at the door

When you're sitting in a room, surrounded by 28 other people watching them twist, turn and bend into incredible poses, its hard to not get carried away. Our ego is often a back seat driver, taunting us,pushing us beyond our edge. The edge being where you can go to comfortably without hurting yourself.

The first thing we were told on the first day of yoga teacher training was to leave our ego at the door. Everyone is nodding their head thinking, yah totally no problem. Then class starts. We are warned that we will be doing yoga for hours each day, so take a resting pose if you need it. The first week no one took resting pose, determined not to be the first one to give in. By the second week the exhaustion was showing. Everyone took a resting pose at least once. Our teacher would say, be brave, take a resting pose.

Why is it that we associate admitting our limits with defeat. I know I have this mindset. Its something I am working on, and will probably always have to work on. For me the hardest thing is admitting that because of an old neck injury, there are a few poses that I will never be able to do.

After a week of spending nine hours a day together, you realize everyone is working with their own injuries and insecurities. Acknowledging that we have limitations does not mean we are weak. There is no pain in yoga.

Now when I am in a studio surrounded by other students, I feel off the energy. It is amazing the difference I feel from practicing at home to practicing in a studio.

Do you prefer to practice at home or in a studio?

Where you need to go

Trust in love and it will take you where you need to go.
Trust in what you love, continue to do it and it will take
you where you need to go.
Don't worry too much about security.
You will eventually have a deep security when you begin
to do what you want.
How many of us with our big salaries are actually
secure anyways.

Carry on essentials

Carry on essentials

Made with polyvore

When I travel, especially on long flights, there are a few things I just can't live without.

Notebook and pen - I find that being stuck on a flight is the best time to write. You have nowhere else to be, so you might as well relax and take advantage of the time.

Music - When I want to relax and drown out any excess noise, my iPod really comes in handy.

Neck pillow - I find it hard to get comfortable enough on a flight to be able to fall asleep. A neck pillow is a must for me.

Face cream - My skin gets so dry and irritated on long flights. Having a small jar of cream really helps keep the stress to a minimum.

A great book - Why not kill a couple of hours reading a book you have been meaning to make time for.

A giant purse - To fit all these must haves into.

Lip balm - A slightly tinted lip balm is a way for me to feel refreshed once I step off the plane.

Coffee - I fight coffee really soothing, and since I tend to get a bit nervous travelling, having a big cup of coffee is the perfect cure.

What are your travel essentials?

Volunteering in Greece

When I decided to back through Europe at the age of 22, I really didn't have much of a plan. All I knew was that I would need to find some source of income to extend my stay. Europe can be a very expensive place and I was working with a very tight budget.

After doing a bit of research I found lots of opportunities to work in exchange for room and board. This seemed like the perfect solution to my problem. Not only would I cut my costs in half, I would also be able to immerse myself in the local culture and hopefully make some friends as well.

I volunteered at two places while I travelled around Greece. One was a fig farm just outside of Athens, not such a great experience. The other was the Silva Riding Project on Corfu Island.

I spent five month in Corfu. It was a wonderful experience and if you would like to learn more check out this post and this one.

At any given time there was about six or more volunteers, all ranging in age. I became great friends with these volunteers. On our days off we would venture into town, take part in trivia night at the local pub and sit around a bonfire on the beach.

Having this wonderful group of people with me, made my journey an unforgettable one. If you are planning a trip around Europe but are worried about your budget, I would really recommend looking into volunteering options.

Do you have a similar experience that you would like to share?

Were off

We are off again. Today we fly to England to begin another adventure. For the next three weeks I will not be checking this blog or social media. I am taking this opportunity to take a breather from the online world.

I have planned plenty of posts for everyone and I will reply to emails and comments as soon as I'm back. I might post on my Instagram once and awhile so if you would like to follow along click here.

I can't wait to share our adventures and pictures when I return.

I can't believe its the end of summer. Where did the last two months go? July, my life was all about the 200 hour yoga teacher training program. I thought I would have more time in August to enjoy these nice hot days we have been getting, but time sure pasted by fast.

September promises to be a month full of adventure, we leave for our trip to the UK on the 4th and will be there for just over three weeks. I can't wait.

To celebrate the beginning of September here are a few things that I came across this month.
